Projects/Issues

Greenway Network is involved in a number of environmental issues and projects in the community.

These are some of things we have done and are working on as we speak:

* Greenway Network has reorganized the Dardenne Creek Watershed Alliance.

* We assisted Missouri River Relief in obtaining a grant to help clean the Missouri River.

* We assisted the DNR in the Brush Creek Project in Pacific, MO.

* We are an affiliate of the Missouri Conservation Federation.

* We are sponsoring the St. Charles County Operation Clean Stream. 

*We sponsor Dardenne Day:  Monitoring 20 sites on Dardenne Creek.

* We just completed our first annual Race for the Rivers Canoe & Kayak race and Festival on the Missouri River!

* We are a Missouri Stream Team and are organizing other Stream Teams in the area into a regional group.  We have received awards from the DNR!!

* We are working on important research projects to test water quality on many of the streams in the Metro area.

*We are restoring about a mile of Peruque Creek.

* We assisted Missouri River Communities Network in conducting the Clean Stream Education Initiative training for 47 teachers and their students.

* Greenway Network is a major partner in the Confluence Greenway Project.

* We co-sponsored the Missouri Wildlife Artist Festival November 2007. 

* We are assisting in the Grand Glaize Creek Monitoring Project in St. Louis County, Mo.

 * We sponsor a Youth Advisory Board that gives students opportunities to work alongside our board and committees.

* We sponsored the Clean Water Celebration.

* We assist Stream Team is teaching their Stream Team Workshops.

* We are working with the St. Charles County Land Trust & Great Rivers Greenway District to develop the proposed Dardenne Creek Greenway.

* We perform Watershed Presentations to schools and organizations.

* We worked with the Natural Resource Conservation Service to help citizens of the Peruque Creek watershed develop a watershed protection plan.

* Greenway Network was a main player in developing the recently adopted Water Protection Ordinance in St. Charles County, protecting our streams.

* We are assisting Trailnet in conducting the Big River Rendezvous boat cruise on the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers.

* Assisted Costilio Elementary School develop trails and butterfly garden for their out-door classroom.

* Completed a 40-acre Natural Floodplain Park Area on the bank of the Mississippi River in Portage des Sioux.

* We assist home and land owners with environmental problems.

*We provide Conservation Education information booths at various festivals.
