National Public Lands Day - September 22 2018

Volunteers Needed for Planting, Trail Building and River Clean up

Great Rivers National Public Lands Day, part of a nationwide public service day will be held starting at 8:30am. at Riverlands Bird Sanctuary, 301 Riverlands Way, West Alton, Mo.

Greenway Network Conservation Teams and other volunteers will be picking up trash, planting, removing invasive plants and doing other needed work on public lands near the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers.

The Cora Island Unit of the  US Fish and Wildlife Big Muddy Refuge, the  Missouri Dept. of Natural Resources Jones Confluence State Park and the US Army Corps of Engineers Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary need your help conserving and restoring our lands and waters.

Great Rivers NPLD will have two shifts this year from 8:30am to 12:00pm and 1:00pm to 4:00pm with a free lunch for those morning volunteers who can stay for the second shift. We will form three work teams after meeting for registration at Riverlands and then drive to the work site at USF&W Cora Island, Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary or Confluence State Park. Snacks will be available to everyone. All volunteers will receive a free pass to one of our National Parks and a t shirt.

We need 100 hundred people for this work crew. One of our missions will be to plant one thousand prairie plants.  Be tough, be there.

This will be our last Conservation Team work day for the year at the confluence.

Please bring gloves, water bottle and boots or sturdy shoes. We work rain or shine, so bring your sunscreen or rain gear! Come outdoors and join the fun!

Your help is important to improve our public lands, so please join us on National Public Lands Day.

This event is supported by Great Rivers Greenways, Audubon Center at Riverlands, US Army Corp of Engineers Riverlands, Missouri Dept. of Natural Resource Jones Confluence State Park and Greenway Network.
