Greens Bottom Wildflower and Wetland Project
Green's Bottom Wildflower and Wetlands Project
Greenway's Mission is partly "to encourage sound management of area
watersheds, to educate the public"; we also network with other agencies.
Thanks to the cooperation of the St. Charles County Highway
Department and our County Executive, we were able to substitute beautiful
Native prairie grasses and wildflowers on over 21 acres along the new
Green's Bottom road project. The area lies between the road and the
Katy Trail. The area is a wonderful linear wetland.
Missouri Botanical Gardens provided the wetland seeds to Greenway Network.
In the future, Greenway Network would like to put in place water control
structures to manipulate the water level and stimulate the growth of wetland
plants, fish and other wildlife.
We would welcome help from anyone that is able to brush hog the area.
Our plans are to organize controlled burns in the Prairie and perhaps also
on the wetlands after drawing down the water.
The flowers are growing now and many more will appear over time.
Katy Trail enthusiasts and road commuters will appreciate this project into
the future.
